If you’re hoping to see England international defender Joe Gomez play for Liverpool again this campaign as Jurgen Klopp reckons situation as “very difficult.”
The 21-year-old versatile defender has suffered a leg fracture back in December and has been recovering on the sidelines since, however, has returned to the bench during the Tuesday night 2-0 victory over Porto.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s one of the most crucial clash with Chelsea, German specialist has revealed that as long as his other centre-halves remain fit it’s doubtful whether Joe Gomez makes a return or not.
“Having Joe around is a very difficult situation.
“He’s a wonderful footballer and needs time so we have to make sure he is 100% fit. If the other boys are fit we can give Joe time to get to full fitness and match practice elsewhere.”
There’s no doubting that 21-year-old England international defender is the future of the Merseyside Reds defence, however, it’d be risky for Klopp to change things around at this stage of the season with the Reds are one step away from the 1/2 final, especially considering the form his side are in.
Rushing him back isn’t vital. Cameroon international defender Joel Matip has shown admirable form alongside with Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk and that is most likely to be the partnership the Merseyside Reds will go with as they pursue the Champions League and Premier League.
