Unai Emery has lavished praise on Alex Iwobi for his huge impact from the bench against Liverpool on Saturday evening and urged him to continue improvement to compete for starting role.
Nigeria international was rather unfortunate to be left out of the starting lineup after impressing in te recent weekends, with Mkhitaryan preferred on the right wing, however, came off the bench against Liverpool he helped Alexandre Lacazette to found Alisson’s back of the net.
It was Iwobi’s third Premier League assist of the campaign, however, he has not found back of the net since the Blues game in early August and Emery is keen to see the African defender to improve his record in the frontline.
‘We need every player and the characteristic each player has is important, and Iwobi he can impact hard in the match after starting in the bench,’ Emery said afterwards.
‘Today for us I think he would have started on the right, but he’s better left. This impact in some moment in the match, like for the goal, I think is important.
‘His energy is also important, his quality, but he can improve, he can do better also because he scored against Chelsea and I want him to be more near the box to have chances to score more. And he can.
‘I think he’s very young, and he’s improving, but the ambition because he can do more.’
