Arsenal wanted to secure services of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele this summer – and reports suggested that the Catalan giants used a charm offensive to keep him at the Catalan club.
The North London club were strongly linked with securing the services of Frenchman over the summer with the La Liga giants star reportedly a dream target for Arsenal transfer chief Sven Mislintat.
The France international looked attainable at one point with winger thought to be considering options in the summer after falling down in the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde.
The Catalan giants also signed Brazilian forward Malcom from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux in something that many felt could lead to a move to the North London club.
Arsenal chief Mislintat has been poaching his old Borussia Dortmund by securing the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
And Catalan newspaper Sport have now opened up on how French winger was able to remain a Barcelona player.
Malcom’s arrival was seen as a catalyst for Dembele to leave the North London club.
However, Valverde reportedly told Barcelona chiefs he wanted to keep Frenchman at Nou Camp to remain and start that game – which he did and has been one of the key players for the Catalan club.
