Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has suitors in Spain with both Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad keeping tabs on his future at Stamford Bridge, according to the reports from Sun.
The 30-year-old right-back has established himself as a vital player of the Blues since his move from Ligue 1 outfits Marseille back in 2012, playing around 342 games for the club in all competitions.
Over the past few campaigns, Azpilicueta has been a key part ever-present in the WEst London club, missing only two games in the Premier League fro the last 156 appearences s since the start of the 2015-16 season.
Following a dip in form, though, Spain international defender could soon find his first-team minuted under threat with highly-rated defender Reece James expected to challenge him for starting role at the club and Frank Lampard seems to be a huge fan of the 19-year-old defender.
James was in phenomenal form for Wigan Athletic during his loan spell last campaign and according to reports, Lampard is looking to promote him in Azpilicueta’s place after Spaniard returns from the International break.
Should Azpilicueta slip down the pecking order at Chelsea, he could seek an exit from the club and La Liga teams are interested to sign him.
Athletic Bilbao are renowned for their policy of only selecting players native to the Basque and Azpilicuetta has ben their transfer target, while Real Sociedad are also keen on to strengthen their squad to compete for the pace in the European tournaments.
Azpilicueta has endured a tough start to the campaign, making mistakes leading to goals in the 4-0 loss to direct Premier League rivals Manchester United and in Saturday’s disappointed, 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Premier League team Sheffield United.
