Arsenal Spanish manager Unai Emery is monitoring Ajax Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico as a solution to Gunners’ developing left-back problem, according to reports in the Italian media.
Stephan Lichtsteiner was forced to fill in at left-back versus Leicester City with Spain international Nacho Monreal and former Schalke player Sead Kolasinac injured.
The north London giants came back from a goal down to win 3-1 against the Foxes but looked frail at the back for much of the game.
Emery is interested to add steel to his defence and believes he needs a long-term solution at left-back as Spaniard turns 33 in February.
Monreal is the current first-choice under Unai, and the Arsenal boss wants more options to incite rivalry for the spot.
Football news website Calciomercato.com claim Arsenal are interested in Nicolas Tagliafico, who has impressed since joining Ajax last January.
The 26-year-old Tagliafico became Ajax’s starting left-back on arrival and signed a contract until June of 2022.
Arsenal may be able to call on Kolasinac and Monreal when the Gunners travel to Spain to take on Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League.
