LIVERPOOL head-coach Jurgen Klopp has dropped hint there will be a new signing on the bench in the UEFA super cup final in Istanbul.

The Champions League defending champions take on Europe League holders in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The Merseyside Reds have a crisis between the sticks after Brazilian keeper Alisson suffered a calf injury in a Premier League opening game against Norwich City.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is facing a number of weeks on the sidelines and will miss the UEFA Super cup final.

Adrian, who joined on a free transfer following the transfer of Belgian stopper Simon Mignolet, will take the gloves for the upcoming games.

However, Jurgen Klopp has limited back up because Caoimhin Kelleher only recently returned to training with the Reds.

That has left the Merseyside Reds looking for an experienced goalkeeper to fill the void – and Lonergan looks set to be on his way at Anfield after training with the first-team squad in pre-season tour.

The 35-year-old former Preston, Middlesbrough and Preston stopper is likely to be offered on a one year deal.

And Klopp has indicated that 35-year-old stopper will be among the Reds substitutes at Besiktas Park.

“I think so,” he said. “I didn’t speak to John [Achterberg] yet about that, we spoke a lot about the goalie situation apart from what we have to do [on Wednesday]!

“We will see but we can have obviously a lot of players on the bench there which is good and I think Andy will be one of them.”

Brazilian keeper Alisson could be sidelined for as long as six weeks, however, Jurgen Klopp is hopeful his No.1 will be back as soon as possible.
