AC Milan will make a move for Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren once their appointment of Sampdoria head-coach Marco Giampaolo as Gatusso’s successor.
Giampaolo is believed to replace Gennaro Gattuso in the hot seat at Inter Milan and will be tasked with rebuilding a squad that finished fifth in Serie A table missing out the Champions League football six consecutive years.
Italian giants have been rumoured with a move for Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen who is reportedly on the Gunners radar, however, another central defender in their sights is Croatian defender after he slipped down the pecking order at Anfield.
The 29-year-old played 18-games for the Merseyside Reds in all competitions last campaign but found himself behind Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
The form of Van Dijk, Matip and Joe Gomez mean that Croatian defender faces the likelihood of starting next campaign as Liverpool’s fourth-choice options and although he has two years left on his current deal with the Reds.
Lovren has endured a mixed spell at Anfield since making a £20m move from Premier Leauge rivals Southampton back in 2014.
Klopp has revealed that he will not be making wholesale changes to his lineup that won the Champions League and finished Premier League season with one point behind from champions, Manchester City with only one or two additions expected to arrive this summer.
Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge have both been released at the end of their deals while there is speculation over the futures of Xherdan Shaqiri and Simon Mignolet who is open to playing regular first-team football elsewhere.
