Rangers manager Steven Gerrard still wants to sign one more signing to his side this transfer window and is playing the waiting match with Ryan Kent. Reds would rather sell U20 England international than loan him out again but know they are in a battle against time to do so.
If the Premier League transfer window closes with Ryan still at Merseyside club on Thursday at 5 pm, they may change their tune and be open to loaning Kent out again. The forward flourished at Ibrox last term, and Steven is desperate to have him back.
Gerrard has space for another attacker after selling Daniel Candeias and with Glenn Middleton ready for a loan move. Steven wanted the 22-year-old winger even before Candeias moved on such was his impact last campaign, but his need has grown after the last two weeks.
And the former Reds player is now waiting to see if anyone moves for English attacker in the final days of the window. Gers can sign footballer until September 2 but can’t afford Ryan on a permanent deal unless Alfredo Morelos is sold.
Gerrard knows Kent is a footballer who can turn the screw in Scotland and, after watching Hoops make a statement on the opening day of the season, needs to make one of his own.
“I’ve made no secret of the fact I’d like to sign one more. There’s no rush to do that,” Steven said last week. “We’re prepared to be patient to get the right player. And more outgoings will depend on whether the individual footballers want to go and play football.’
