Manchester United had the chance to beat their Premier League rivals Chelsea to the signature of Welsh wonderkid Ethan Ampadu before the Blues were even aware of him according to the reports.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson had personally asked the team to sign the youngster after being impressed with his performances during a junior tournament at Old Trafford back in 2013.
Ampadu, who was 12-years-old at that time, was believed to have been described as a ‘proper player’ by the Reds legend.
However, the report suggested that the deal fell through during the summer transfer window as David Moyes has replaced his compatriot.
The Blues sealed a deal to sign the player from English club Exeter back in 2017 at the age of 16 having enjoyed trials at the Stamford Bridge and the Welsh international has impressed whenever he’s been given chance and has been even included in Maurizio Sarri’s first-team squad.
Ampadu was highly rated at Exeter and has been tipped to become a world-class player at one day.
