Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar has discussed rejecting a move to Anfield back in the summer of 2016.
Aouar was just a youngster at the time, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp keen to bring him to the club.
A move has never been materialised, however, with the 20-year-old signing his first professional contract at Ligue 1 club, where he remains currently.
Speaking to Planete Lyon, the 21-year-old midfielder gave his reasoning for not joining the Klopp revolution back in 2016.
“Before I signed my first professional contract with Lyon in July 2016, Liverpool were interested in me.
“I thought about it hard with those close to me on the decision I needed to take, what was better for my progression.
“And I opted for Lyon because it is the club of my heart and my aim was to succeed here, in my city.”
Aouar has since flourished in a Lyon shirt and become one of the key player attracting interest from hosts of European teams including Liverpool.
