Cameroon international defender Joel Matip has revealed that a return to the Bundesliga could be on the cards in the nearby future, however, added that he feels happy at Anfield.
That was revealed in an interview the 27-year-old defender did with African Football, where he has revealed that a move back to Bundesliga could be an option for him later down the line.
He said: “In football, nothing is impossible. Currently, I have [had] two years contract with the Reds. After initial difficulties and injuries, I feel comfortable in Liverpool now.”
The 27-year-old’s current deal with the Merseyside Reds expires in June 2020 and renewal has not yet been offered to former Schalke 04 defender.
Matip also seemed to hint that German club, the team he departed to join Liverpool in 2016, would be his preferred destination if a move back to Germany.
“There is still a lot of room for Schalke in my heart. That never stops. Accordingly, my worries about this club were very big. I try to watch every single game on TV. It can only get better for the new season.”
Matip has played around 98 games for the Merseyside Reds, founding back of the net three times, and started in the Champions League final earlier this month as the Reds beat Tottenham 2-0 to victory a sixth European Cup
