Arsenal January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confessed that he has made the switch to Emirates Stadium because of his former Dortmund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The 28-year-old forward has made move to the Gunners for a club-record £60million deal a week after Mkhitaryan arrived from Manchester United in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez.
And Gabon forward admitted: “He called me a few times and asked, ‘Will you come or not?’
“I said, ‘First you have to tell me if you signed or not’.
“He told me it was all done — and of course it was a big factor in me coming here.
“It’s like being reunited with a brother, a good friend. We played together in the past and I’m really happy to see him again.”
The former Borussia Dortmund forward was on target on his Gunners debut, while Armenian attacking midfielder provided three assists in the 5-1 victory over Everton last weekend.
Gabon international forward speaking to Arsenal.com, added: “We understand each other on and off the pitch, that’s why it’s easier on the pitch.
“[The fans] have to be happy [to see us together], we will do our best of course, like we did in the past.”
“We know each other on and off the pitch.”
