Liverpool summer signing has revealed he picked Premier League giants ahead of some of the biggest teams in Europe before the exit from RB Leipzig.
The Merseyside Reds officially signed the 23-year-old midfielder last summer, however, on the condition that he could not move to Anfield before the end of the 2017/18 season.
Since joining up with his new team-mates, Guinea international midfielder has been exciting fans with his displays during the pre-season games.
However, the 23-year-old midfielder might not have ended up wearing the Liverpool kit if the things had worked out differently.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and La Liga champions Barcelona have rivalled the Anfield outfit for Keita’s signature the last term.
However, even before the Reds stunning run to the Champions League final, he was convinced that Anfield will be his next destination.
“It’s true there were other teams involved like the ones you mention [Barca and Bayern] but a big part of my decision was the role of the coach,” he said.
“We had good conversations. The words he spoke to me about this project really convinced me.
“I could see how the club was developing and I spoke at length with Sadio [Mane].
“Sadio is like a brother to me. We had nine months together at Salzburg and built up a good rapport. We have been great friends since that time.
“He told me what a great club this was and how the team was progressing and had great potential.”
