Tottenham Hotspur are frontrunners to snap up Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon this summer transfer window.
But Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has not given up hope that the England Under-21 international will end up at the Reds, speaking to ESPN.
Ryan has long been viewed as one of the hottest prospects in British football and, after Fulham were relegated from the EPL last season, it seems only a matter of time before Sessegnon takes a step up from life at Craven Cottage.
Football London reports that Sessegnon would choose Spurs over Liverpool as he wants to work with Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, a coach who turned Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Kyle Walker into world-renowned footballing talents in the British capital.
But Ryan, who Sky claims is rated at £40 million, should not overlook the strides Trent Alexander-Arnold and even Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have made while honing their trade under manager Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside.
And Steve believes that Ryan would be a perfect fit at Anfield, especially with Andy Robertson lacking any strong competition at left-back.
“Ryan Sessegnon; He is not starting but he is there to push the others already in the first team (at Liverpool),” Steve said.
“He would be there to make the starting eleven better. In two or three years time he would be pushing Robertson or whoever it is down the left hand side.”
Ryan’s pro-Spurs stance makes the Reds’ task very hard, however, and it remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old youngster could be tempted to join a club where Ryan would probably spend much of his time on the bench.
