Real Madrid could look to make a stunning summer move for Liverpool’s centre-back Virgil van Dijk should the Dutch star not sign a new deal with the Anfield, according to the reports.
Dutch international defender was recently named the UEFA player of the year for the 2018-19 campaign after a superb season in which his towering performances at the back propelled the Merseyside Reds to Champions League glory three months ago.
The Merseyside Reds are understandably keen to tie their defender with a new long-term contract on improved terms, however, following the interest from the Los Blancos Dutchman is yet to agree on a new deal.
The 28-year-old has stressed his happiness with life at Anfield and has not agitated for a new deal, however, that has not stopped the Spanish giants Real Madrid from attempting to lure the man-mountain to the Los Blancos, should the opportunity present itself.
CalcioMercato journalist Nicolo Shira revealed that Real Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of Dutch powerhouse, stating on Twitter: “Liverpool want to close Virgil Van Dijk’s renew until 2025.
“Reds are in talks with his agent and have offered a new wages of €12.5M a year plus bonuses.
“Real Madrid is interested in him, but Van Dijk is not considering to leave.”
The report goes on to state that the Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp is ‘likely to stand firm’ in his desire to keep Dutchman at Anfield, and coupled with the player’s contentment with life at Anfield, a move to Spanish giants seems unlikely at best.
