Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Stuttgart ace Benjamin Pavard on a five-year deal.
“We’re delighted and proud to be able to secure the services of a player like him,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
The France international joined Stuttgart from Lille back in 2016, helping them achieve promotion to the top flight in his first season.
Last season, Benjamin Pavard helped German side record the best defensive record in the Bundesliga after champions Bayern Munich.
But the 22-year-old hasn’t enjoyed such good form this season, though. Partially thanks to the Frenchman’s struggles, Stuttgart are battling relegation and sit 16th in the table, having shipped 29 goals in his 14 appearances and 35 overall.
Despite his recent form, Benjamin Pavard is a young talent who can freshen up the Bavarians backline with Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng both 30 now.
Stuttgart received a €35 million (£31.4 million) fee for the defender, and the deal will not only allow him to help his side for the rest of the season.
Didier Deschamps used Benjamin Pavard as a right-back at the Wolrd Cup in Russia. Les Bleus went to win the trophy while the versatile full-back scored the goal of the tournament.
