Man Utd new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will discuss a £45million move for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic transfer to Old Trafford with chief Ed Woodward this week, according to the reports from Italy.
The Norwegian manager, who was named United’s interim boss until the end of the 2018/19 season following Jose Mourinho’s exit from Old Trafford, said on Friday that he didn’t expect to sign new players during the January transfer window.
However, he will meet the Red Devils CEO this week where they will discuss the market and specifically Fiorentina defender Milenkovic, according to The Sun
Ed Woodward is reportedly ready to sanction moves if the right deal comes itself and Serbia international defender Milenkovic is believed to be on top of their wishlist.
The 21-year-old defender has only arrived at Fiorentina last season from his boyhood team Partizan, however, it is already rated as one of the most promising defenders in Italy.
Mourinho was unhappy with Man Utd’s defensive potential and would have put pressure on Woodward to sign a quality centre-back if he hasn’t been axed from his job.
Former Man Utd forward Dimitar Berbatov has been critical in the past, however, says the teams do not need to enter the market during the January transfer window because of the recent performances of Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof. ‘I have said in this column before that United need a new ball-playing centre-back,’ he told Betfair.
‘But the likes of Lindelof and Jones are now showing that they are more than capable of bringing the ball out, so they don’t need anyone else.
‘Ole instead needs to focus on bringing the best out of the players already on the books, and there have been some good signs there already.
‘Marcus Rashford is looking very sharp and even Alexis Sanchez joining the party at Newcastle with an excellent assist.
