Manchester United are prepared to dispense with Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly to secure the signature of Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho only started Eric once in the last eight games of the 2017/18 season. The Ivorian hasn’t made a start since his horror show versus Brighton and Hove Albion the previous month.
Eric is understood to be frustrated at his predicament under the 55-year-old manager and is considering looking somewhere else in January if he continues to be frozen out.
And according to The Manchester Evening News’ Richard Fay, Manchester United would be willing to let Eric leave in exchange for Ozil, who Jose managed at Real Madrid and has admired for a while.
Manchester United and Arsenal completed a swap deal in the January transfer window involving Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Prizing Ozil away from Gunners, however, would be a different task altogether from pinching Alexis from the Emirates.
The former recently penned a fresh contract at Arsenal and looks like content at the club in spite of rumours of a rift with Unai Emery.
Eric has been an at times excellent but often frustrating player for the Red Devils, and you wouldn’t bet against Jose Mourinho trying to find a more reliable defender in the window.
