Tottenham Hotspur have already submitted an offer for AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo but Manchester United keen to muscle in on the summer deal, according to an Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.
They report that Italian champions Juventus and Spurs already have offers on the table for the Italian ace, but United are interested in hijacking them and bring the star to Old Trafford.
The club need central midfielders having seen Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera leave the club in the past two transfer windows, and may well be able to usurp Tottenham financially.
The Red Devils have not apparently made an offer just yet, and they might need to act face with Tottenham and Juventus long-established as the two front-runners for his services.
Zaniolo is one of the most in-demand young central midfielders in world football at the moment, and it’s easy to see why Manchester United would want him.
Perhaps an exchange deal can be done between Roma and Spurs which takes Toby Alderweireld the opposite way, and that may also give the north London outfit the upper hand, even if Red Devils do want to join the hunt.
But when the Manchester-based club’s financial muscle meets Daniel Levy’s frugality, there may be a reason for Spurs fans to worry that the Italian will get away.
Meantime, Turkish Football reports that Manchester United have spoken to the agents of Juventusdefender Merih Demiral over a possible move to Old Trafford.
The club are widely expected to bring a new centre-half to the club this summer and have been strongly connected with a swoop for Leicester City star Harry Maguire.
