Manchester United are reportedly interested in the signing of Barcelona midfield star Ivan Rakitic.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to improve his team in a central midfield role this summer following the exit of Ander Herrera, who has decided to quit from Old Trafford after refusing to sign contract extension and signing for PSG.
According to Sport, the Red Devils have asked the Catalan club to name their price for Croatia international midfielder whose future remains up in the air since the arrival of Frankie de Jong.
However, Rakitic is happy at Camp Nou and the report suggested that the Red Devils must significantly better his current wages in order to stand a chance of luring him at Old Trafford for the next season.
Sport report that the entire contract hinges on what Croatian decides to do, while the Catalan club have already told the 31-year-old that they will not offer him a new bumper deal.
The Red Devils are believed to be aware of Rakitic’s demands over improving his current wages.
The Croatia international was also wanted by Serie A giants Inter Milan, however, after the arrival of Antonio Conte interest has been cooled.
Rakitic was also close to joining Paris Saint-Germain earlier last summer before player turned down the chance.
Last month, reports suggested that the Catalan club had put a €55 million (£48m) price tag former Sevilla man.
Jose Mourinho was also a huge fan of Rakitic and wanted to sign him during his time at Old Trafford, however, the deal has never been materialised.
