Red Devils are reportedly monitoring the situation of Matthijs de Ligt again, one year on after failing to add him. This is according to the Independent, who cite that Man United are interested in signing the Juventus centre-back, amid arriving for €75m only last summer.
Matthijs has struggled during his first campaign in Italy, failing to establish a permanent position in the starting line-up, with some of his displays being called into question. De Ligt is, of course, still developing and gaining experience, but such a situation has caught the attention of Man United.
As per the same report, the club would be interested in signing the Netherlands international should the player become available, amid being represented by Mino Raiola.
Such speculation, however, bodes the question as to where Red Devils stand with Axel Tuanzebe. The teenager hasn’t managed to have a breakthrough campaign in the first-team picture as of yet, and surely the arrival of Matthijs would hamper his chances even further.
Axel has been held in high regard over the last couple of years, with the Norwegian boss even describing the centre-back to Red Devils official site as being the ‘future of the club’. The Englishman gained some valuable experience on loan at Aston Villa last campaign but hasn’t received many Premier League minutes.
