Manchester United have approached to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to improve his options in central midfield this transfer window following the exit of Ander Herrera, who failed to agreed terms with the Premier League giants.
Manchester United have asked Barcelona to name their price for Ivan Rakitic and the Spanish side are open to cashing in on the Croatian. But the player himself is happy at Camp Nou and the reports suggest that Manchester United must significantly better his current contract to stand a chance of signing him this summer.
Sport reports that the entire switch hinges on what Ivan Rakitic decides to do, while Barcelona have already told the Croatia international that they will not improve his current deal.
The Red Devils are believed to be aware of Ivan Rakitic’s demands over an improved contract. Inter Milan also wanted the 31-year-old but the Serie A club have cooled their interest after the arrival of Antonio Conte.
Ivan Rakitic was also close to joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer before he opted to turn down a move to the Ligue
1 champions. Last month, reports suggested that the Catalan giants had put a €55 million (£48m) price tag on their midfield star.
Jose Mourinho was also a huge admirer of Ivan Rakitic and wanted to sign the World Cup finalist during his time as Manchester United boss, but Ed Woodward did not wish to spend the money on the midfielder, but it appears that the vice-executive chairman will have to satisfy the manager’s demands.
