Manchester United could reportedly secure services of AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas for a cut-price deal this summer should Italian giants fail to qualify for the Champions League next season as they currently sit fifth in the Serie A table 4 points behind from AC Milan.
Arsenal have also previously been linked with a move for Greek international defender.
The Red Devils have been in the market for a new defender during the past two transfer windows, with the likes of Toby Alderweierld, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Kostas Manolas is believed to be at the top of their wishlist this summer.
Arsenal have identified Manolas as an ideal replacement for Laurent Koscielny who is likely to depart from Emirates Stadium after the end of the current campaign.
Koulibaly is likely to command a world-record transfer fee for the Red Devils, however, Alderweireld’s expiring contract makes him available for a cheaper price, however, Calciomercato claims that Manolas might also be available for a cut-price deal.
The 27-year-old would be eager to depart from the Italian club should they fail to finish in the top four this campaign, and a release clause in his deal would be as little as €36m (£30.8m) if the Italian miss out the Champions League football next season.
Manolas’s desire to play Champions League football for the next campaign gives hope to both Arsenal and Manchester United to lure the Greek centre-back at Old Trafford.
