Manchester City are looking to beat Arsenal in their pursuit of AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas as they look Vincent Kompany’s replacement.

The Greek defender has a contract with Italian giants until 2022, however, is expected of making a move on this summer, even telling reporters after the final game of the Serie A campaign: ‘I don’t know if I’ll stay here.’

The 27-year-old centre-back has a relatively affordable release clause, by modern standards £32m and it has attracted interest from hosts of European clubs.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claimed that the Citizens are the latest team to show an interest in Greek defender, joining the likes of Juventus and Arsenal in the race.

The Norht London c;lub have been rumoured with the Greek defender for longer than their Premier League rivals, however, the Citizens are now reported to be ‘the most interested English team

The imposing defender has arrived in Rome from Greek club Olympiacos back in 2014 for around £13m and since then become a key player for them, however, after missing out on Champions League football he might be on his way out from Stadio Olimpico.

Arsenal are expected to sign at least one centre-back this summer in order to improve the sloppy defence that has seen them miss out Champions League football last season.

The North London club will face a tough battle with the Citizens are prepared to spend money in order to lure Manolas at Etihad Stadium.
