The Merseyside Reds have reportedly opened contract talks with Sadio Mane over new and improved terms at the club, just 10 months after he penned a contract extension.
According to Soccer Link, a French outlet, talks between Senegalese international forwards representatives and the team are in the very early stages, and nothing is yet to be decided, however, there are not expected to be many complications.
The Senegalese, who managed to found back of the net twice against Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime, has been incredible since he has made a bargain £34m switch from Southampton.
Only Sergio Aguero has scored more goals in the English top-tier in 2019 and were it not for Virgil van Dijk, Mane would be in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or after his impressive season with the Merseyside Reds.
There is no indication that African forward is unhappy with his current contract, however, it would be good to see the team proactively reward him with improved terms in recognition of his impressive form.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly pushing to tie Virgil van Dijk down to a bumper fresh contract but interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid has emerged.
The centre-back has been a revelation at Liverpool since his record-breaking £75 million move from Southampton in the winter transfer market of 2018.
Virgil helped Liverpool clinch European glory in the summer as they went one better in the UEFA Champions League to lift the trophy one year after losing to Real Madrid in the final.
The Dutch defender fought off competition from Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi last month to be crowned UEFA’s Player of the Year too.
And now, the Reds want to ensure he remains on Merseyside for years to come, considering his importance to manager Jurgen Klopp and his team.
