Croatia’s World Cup star Domagoj Vida has been linked with a move away from Besiktas with Merseyside duo Liverpool and Everton and reportedly bidding.
Liverpool are not the only club on Merseyside in need of a new centre-back, as they still lack a top quality partner for the world’s most expensive defender, Virgil van Dijk, with Joel Matip Dejan Lovren, and Ragnar Klavan ranging from unconvincing to just plain erratic.
But Domagoj Vida’s performances in Russia for his national team appear to have made him a wanted man in England’s north-west.
It was claimed by Sabah on Thursday that Everton had made a £11.5 million offer for the 29-year-old Besiktas centre-back, who has helped Croatia reach the quarterfinals at the World Cup while emerging as one of the tournament’s surprise stars.
But Turkish TV channel A Spor is reporting that the Reds have also made a bid. It is understood that Everton’s bitter local rivals have offered around £12 million for Croatia international, who has another four years left on his contract in Istanbul.
The report, however, adds that Besiktas would give the green light for Vida to go but they want around £18 million for a player they landed on a free from Ukrainian side Dinamo Kiev as recently as Christmas.
