Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk is set to become the highest-paid player in the Merseyside Reds history by putting pen on a £220,000-a-week deal.
The 29-year-old defender became the most expensive centre-back in the world back in 2018 when he has joined them from Southampton in a £75m deal and he allayed early criticism of the fee with a string of sensational form as the Merseyside Reds reached the Champions League final.
Though loss to Real Madrid hurt, the Merseyside Reds have gone from strength to strength since by claiming the trophy a year later and they’re on course to end their 30-year wait for the Premier League trophy when the English football resumes next week.
Nobody has been more influential in that time than Dutch centre-back, Van Dijk and his form have attracted attention from Europe’s elite, PSG and Juventus.
However, the Sun claims that Van Dijk is more than happy in the Merseyside Reds and he’ll sign a new five-year contract once the Jurgen Klopp’s side claim the Premier League trophy.
The deal, which will take the Dutchman the highest-paid player in the club history with £220,000 per week deal.
Virgil van Dijk’s international teammate Georginho Wijnaldum has been next in the line to sign a new contract at Anfield.
