Liverpool have been backed to make the signing of Timo Werner by Norwegian journalist and former Premier League striker Jan Aage Fjortoft.
The claim comes after Bayern Munich were massively linked with a move for the German forward, something Fjortoft was keen to shut down.
Liverpool’s links to Timo Werner have intensified in recent weeks as Jurgen Klopp weighs up a move for the frontman.
The striker is said to have a release clause in the region of £50m that is due to expire at the end of April.
In the view of Fjortoft, the Premier League leaders are in pole position to land their man.
He tweeted: “The «Timo Werner to Bayern» – rumor is again doing it’s round in the media -carrousel.
“There is still NO sign that Bayern is going for Werner.
“My understanding is still that Liverpool is the most likely destination if player leaves RB Leipzig.”
Timo Werner has already before stated that he will only consider his future after the European Championships.
Express Sport understands that Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen on the 23-year-old.
