Liverpool and Chelsea are battling it out over the services of Barcelona’s goalkeeper with £52m release clause Jasper Cillessen this summer, according to reports from Spain.
Cillessen made his name during a five-year stint at Ajax where he became Eredivisie champion three times before earning a move to the Catalan giants back in 2016 but his time at the Nou Camp hasn’t gone according to plan.
The shot-stopper has struggled to establish himself as he’s been forced to play second fiddle to Marc-Ter Stegen with 29-year-old making only 2 appearances in La Liga and the Champions League last season.
It’s led to speculation that the Dutchman is eyeing a move this summer in search of regular first-team football and Mundo Deportivo claims that the Premier League duo have expressed their interest in bringing him to England.
The Spanish news outlet says Cillessen is assessing his options and although Barcelona are reluctant to lose their No.2, they will consider any offers that are mutually beneficial to the player and club.
Liverpool are in the market as they are searching for a replacement for Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, who could not prove their worth in the ranks of Merseyside club and Jurgen Klopp is desperate to add a top-class keeper to his squad.
