Liverpool attacker Daniel Sturridge is the most likely player to be the next signing made by Newcastle United head-coach Rafa Benitez, according to Football Whispers.
The football news site reported that the 28-year-old English forward is firmly in the running to head to St James’ Park before Thursday’s deadline day of the transfer window despite the Magpies already bolstering their attacking options.
The 28-year-old forward has spent the second half of last campaign on loan at West Brom, who according to the Telegraph covered his entire £120,000-a-week wage package only for him to fail to score only one goal.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have joined the race to sign Ligue 1 giants Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir ahead of Liverpool, according to the reports from France.
The 25-year-old France international forward was on the verge of joining the Merseyside Reds in a £53 million contract in June, however, the move collapsed following the players medical.
The Merseyside Reds raised concerns over Fekir’s right knee after he needed two operations in the space of 12 months to fix a cruciate ligament rupture in September 2015. Jurgen Klopp’s side subsequently pulled out of the deal and Fekir still remains a Lyon player with the transfer window due to close on Thursday evening.
