Liverpool head-coach Jurgen Klopp nearly signed a different player to Andy Robertson back in 2016.
The Merseyside Reds head-coach Klopp pulled off a bargain transfer by paying Hull just £8million for Scottish full-back two-year age.
The Scotland international full-back was signed to provide competition for Spanish defender Alberto Moreno at left-back and has since become a regular starter for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Merseyside Red star’s stunning rise has seen to become a captain of Scotland national team.
However, the Liverpool Echo claims Jurgen Klopp’s side nearly signed Leicester City star Ben Chilwell instead.
It is reported the Merseyside giants were interested in signing of 21-year-old Chigwell during his time on loan at Huddersfield Town.
Liverpool bid £5m for Chilwell and also were ready to make £2m offer in add-ons.
However, the Liverpool Echo say Leicester priced them out of a move and the Reds were forced to rotate between Moreno and James Milner at left-back.
Klopp lauded Chilwell before Liverpool faced Leicester before the international break.
“It will be really, really tough,” he said.
“They play really confident football.
“The midfield is really strong, the defensive line has played together for a while, Chilwell is a massive player for them with a great future, it looks like he is a really big talent.
“That all makes it special.”
