Serie A giants Inter Milan are set to make a summer move for reported Chelsea transfer target Nicolo Barella, according to the Tuttomercatoweb reports.
The West London club have been rumoured with securing the services of Cagliari playmaker for a number of months, as they plan to strengthen their squad for the next season.
Their 22-year-old star has been criticised for being too one-dimensional this campaign, with Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho in for particular criticism.
Italian midfielders creativity is seen as something that can be a valuable addition, however, the Blues now face stiff competition for his services ahead of the next season.
Inter Milan are believed to be in pole position, partly because the Italian midfielder favours to remain in Serie A.
The Nerazzurri are willing to offer around €30m plus their rising star Facundo Colidio and Lorenzo Gavioli, rather than meet Cagliari’s asking €50million fee, although it is not yet known if Cagliari will accept it.
A five-year contract is being mooted, meaning that the 22-year-old midfielder would be an Inter Milan player until the summer of 2024.
It is now up to the Blues to respond, should their strong interest in the Italian midfielder remain serious.
Meanwhile, Serie A outfits Atalanta are working on a deal to secure a permanent contract for on-loan Chelsea playmaker Mario Pasalic.
According to Calcio Mercato, the Italian side are keen to make his loan move permanent as Pasalic has become a vital part of Atalanta’s starting XI.
Atalanta are currently 4th in the Italian top-tier and look set to secure a place for the Champions League next campaign, ahead of the likes of Lazio AS Roma and AC Milan.
