Former Man Utd midfielder Jesper Olsen believes that Ajax centre-back Matthijs De Ligt has the quality to play for any team in the world and tipped him to make summer move to Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the best young prospects in European football and has been on the radar of hosts of European team including Manchester United and their Premier League rivals Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Despite his tender years, Dutchman has already racked up over a century of appearances for the Eredivisie giants, has been the club captain since the start of the 2018/19 season and is the youngest-ever player in a European final, playing against the Red Devils in Euorpe League back in 2017.
Ajax defender rise to prominence has alerted the attention of Europe’s top team to his potential with Barcelona and Real Madrid amongst those said to be interested to lure him away from Amsterdam Arena, however, Olsen has backed the teenager to become an important part of Solskjaer’s starting XI if he completes move to Old Trafford.
‘No doubt about it [he could play for United],’ Olsen told Omnisport.
‘Playing at Ajax, you have to be a quality player. So, of course, he could [play for United], no doubt about it. He could fit into any top team at the moment.’
The Norwegian head-coach is reportedly keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the next season and expected to sign five players.
