Chelsea are reportedly planning a move for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter.

The Germany international centre-back has played a vital role in the heart of the Monchengladbach defence last campaign – playing 31 top-flight games for the Bundesliga outfit.

The West London club have already been busy in the transfer market with the acquisitions of Morocco international forward Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, and a recent report suggested that the Blues are nearing a deal to secure the services of Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Now, Kicker claims that Frank Lampard has set his sights on another Germany international star, and the Chelsea head-coach is keen to secure the services of Ginter to Stamford Bridge.

However, even though Ginter’s deal with Monchengladbach has just under a year left to run, the report suggests that the Bundesliga outfit will still demand a hefty fee for the 26-year-old.

Serie A giants, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also believed to be keeping tabs on the situation.

Chelsea long-term target Kalidou Koulibaly has been valued at £81m by Napoli and the Blues unlikely to be ready to splash such amount of money for his services and Ginter seems to be a perfect alternative to Senegalese international defender.
