Frank Lampard reserved special praise for Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri after their impressive games in the Super Cup final game against Liverpool, hailing their leadership qualities.
The pair have plaid the full 120 minutes in Istanbul, with Brazilian-born midfielder Jorginho getting on the scoresheet from the spot in extra time.
Although his team went down in a penalty shootout, with the scores tied at 2-2 after extra time, newly appointed manager Frank Lampard was delighted with the way his side bounced back after a disappointing 4-0 loss in the opening game of the Premier League campaign.
And while he thought every one of his players put in a shift, he has had special praise on Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho for their efforts. Asked to pick out the standout performer of the night, Lampard replied: ‘Well one of my players obviously.
‘It’s a difficult one I think. I loved the performance of Jorginho for us and I loved the performance of Emerson, I thought they were both fantastic.
‘And when you think of 120 minutes for two players who played on Sunday evening, so Liverpool were fresher than us, I thought they were leaders in the team.
‘But I liked the performance of all of my players. Not one player was below par today. Everyone gave everything, the subs made an impact. So all, all of them.’
