Everton have finalised the deadline day transfer of Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi.
The Merseyside Blues switched their focus to the Nigeria international having seen their two bids for Wilfried Zaha rejected.
Zaha handed in a formal transfer request on Wednesday evening, however, the Eagles held firm and refused to sell their prize-asset having reluctantly allowed their key player Aaron Wan-Bissaka to make a switch to Manchester United in the summer.
The 23-year-old Nigerian forward is likely to offer the same versatility and unpredictability as Ivorian forward, however, has never found back of the net more than three times in a single Premier League season.
Unai Emery reportedly keen on to keep the academy graduate who made his Premier League debut for the Gunners back in 2015, but Arsenal’s need to balance the books saw Raul Sanllehi to sanction Iwobi’s £40million transfer.
Iwobi underwent a medical in London earlier yesterday making the deadline day move to Everton.
Everton manager Marco Silva said: ‘Alex was one of our main targets for this window and I believe he is a fantastic signing for Everton. He is a direct and skilful winger and attacking midfielder who always works very hard for his team.
‘He is still young but already with a lot of top-level experience – 100 Premier League matches, more in Europe and many international games.
‘It was important for me to have one more quality option for our attacking positions to add to what we have with Richarlison, Bernard and Theo Walcott.
‘Alex fits exactly the profile of player I want in my model. He is hungry to join Everton and take the next step in his career, to help us compete with the strongest teams in the league and reach his potential at our club.’
