Napoli have confirmed that Senegalese international defender Kalidou Koulibaly has signed a new five-year contract with the Serie A outfit.
The 27-year-old centre-back was rumoured with Chelsea last summer, and those links re-emerged when ex-Partenopei head-coach Maurizio Sarri took the reins at West London club.
However, Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed the deal on Saturday, prior to the club’s 5-0 friendly defeat to Liverpool.
“Koulibaly, he has renewed with us for another five seasons,” De Laurentiis told reporters.
“He is probably the best defender in the world. For him I have refused €90m (£80m) from three clubs because I do not sell.”
The 27-year-old centre-back has been with Serie A giants since the summer of 2014 and has so far made 164 appearences in all competitions, founding back of the net eight times.
Meanwhile, Chelsea now look elsewhere to strengthen their defensive end with Juventus duo Matia Caldara and Daniele Rugani has been on top of Maurizio Sarri’s wishlist.
Italian head-coach also wants to bring in one more central midfielder before the start of new 2018/19 season.
