Chelsea have emerged as a shock transfer target for Leicester City’s winger Riyad Mahrez according to Calciomercato reports.
The Algeria international forward has been linked with summer move to AS Roma during but the Serie A team failed to agree with a fee for the 26-year-old with Leicester, and it looks like they will now face stiff opposition from the Blues to buy the winger in January.
Mahrez’s form has been greatly developed this campaign, after losing to surprise during most of the 2016/17 campaign. He scored four goals and made five assists in 16 Premier League to help the Foxes to be eighth in the table as the term ends in on the halfway line.
Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has revealed his disappointment at the lack of depth in his team during recent weeks, but the area that the team remain uncertain is up front, with a lack of opportunities behind the main striker Alvaro Morata.
Indifference, Mahrez’s natural position on the right flank of a front three is well stocked with the likes of Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard all capable of performing in the role.
