Arsenal are lining up January bid to sign Mainz defender Jean-Philippe Gbamin, according to reports in France.
Gbamin has played 46 games for Bundesliga outfits Mainz since arriving from Lens back in 2016, however, the 22-year-old defender is being rumoured with a move to Premier League ahead of the 2018/19 season.
The Gunners new boss Unai Emery is desperate to bring defensive reinforcements to the Emirates ahead of the new season and Gbamin has emerged as a possible target for former PSG manager.
RMC suggests that the Gunners are plotting a bid for Gbamin – it’s claimed several other teams in the Premier League also expressed interest in Ivory Coast international.
Mainz are demanding a fee of around €30million (£26m) for the central defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder
Unai Emery’s side have been rumoured with a number of defenders this summer and have already landed former Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner as a free agent.
Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also expected to complete a move to north London in the coming weeks.
It’s believed that the Gunners have wrapped up a £16m deal for the Greece international centre-back.
