Chelsea out-of-favour defender Baba Rahman could be on his way to Schalke in January after the Bundesliga giants confirmed talks with the Premier League defending champions.
The 23-year-old has joined the Blues in 2015 and made 23 appearances for them since, which was made difficult by ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho‘s sacking just four months after he joined.
Ghana international full-back has then spent 2016/17 campaign at Schalke 04 and the Blues have signed the likes of Marcos Alonso and Davide Zappacosta to strengthen their defensive options.
Antonio Conte is also keen to lure Brazilian full-back Alex Sandro at Stamford Bridge and Schalke have confirmed they’re keen on signing Rahman in January.
‘We’re in talks with Chelsea regarding Baba Rahman,’ said sporting executive Christian Heidel.
‘There are still one or two things to clear up on their end.
‘We could agree on a deal with the player himself relatively quickly.’
Chelsea head-coach confirmed last month that the 23-year-old Ghana international defender was still recovering from a long-term knee injury and, though he was not considered in his plans and refused to rule out his sale during the January transfer window.
The Blues have signed Baba Rahman for around £20m back in 2015 and will look to recoup as much of that fee from Schalke 04.
