Freiburg star Caglar Soyuncu is close to becoming Arsenal’s first summer signing, according to the Mirror report.
The 21-year-old defender was tipped to join the Gunners earlier this month by Altinordu president Seyit Mehmet Ozkan, despite strong interest from defending Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.
The Gunners are currently without a manager after Arsene Wenger ended his 22-year reign at the club, but are determined to push a move for Soyuncu.
Turkish defender was a regular for Freiburg this campaign and the Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is believed to be his huge fan.
The Telegraph claims the Gunners are ready to pay £35million to get the deal done for Soyuncu.
But, the North London club hierarchy have not quizzed prospective new head-coaches on their opinion of Soyuncu.
The Gunners seem convinced a young coach is the best option for them ahead of the new season and are reportedly edging closer to announcing their ex-captain Mikel Arteta as Arsene Wenge’rs successor.
Unlike an experienced manager, Spaniard may not insist on total control of transfers, although Arsenal may wait to complete the deal until a new head coach is in place.
