Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has reportedly emerged as a shock transfer target for MLS club DC United.
The 30-year-old has played 231 games for the North London club since a 2013 move from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Ozil missed his team’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United last weekend and a game against Burnley, though, amid concerns over the German playmaker’s security after being involved in a carjacking attempt in the summer.
According to the Washington Post, MLS club DC United are keen to present German playmaker with the chance to depart from English football as the MLS outfit identified him as a replacement for Wayne Rooney.
Indeed, Rooney has signed for Championship outfits Derby with the former England skipper preparing to start his coaching career.
Ozil, who managed to found back of the net five Premier League goals last campaign, still has two years left to run on his deal at the Emirates Stadium, which is believed to be worth more than £350,000 per week.
Meanwhile, Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny is a loan target for the Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray, according to a Turkish media outlet Ajansspor.
The Super Lig side are hopeful of signing Mohamed on a temporary basis before the European transfer window slams shut.
Mohamed is out of favour at the Gunners and likely to be moved on. The Egyptian was limited to just eight EPL outings last campaign.
