Mario Mandzukic wants to sign Manchester United before the start of the winter transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
Man United had targeted the 33-year-old in the summer, and he was reportedly close to signing Old Trafford as part of the deal to join Paulo Dybala.
But the Red Devils pulled out of their transfer for Dybala due to the Argentine’s wage demands and did not renegotiate a separate agreement for Mandzukic.
The Croatia international has not performed for Juventus this campaign and was even left out of Maurizio Sarri’s 22-man Champions League squad.
According to Tuttosport, Mandzukic has decided to join Man United, and the striker would now like the special permit to begin training with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s in December before officially completing his transfer on January 1.
The report claims that Mandzukic is keen to hit the ground running at Old Trafford having failed to perform a single minute of football for Juventus this season and wants a month to integrate with his new teammates.
But for that to happen, Juve and Mandzukic would need to reach an informal agreement which would allow the Croatian to train with United.
Norwegian boss is keen to bolster his attacking options with a new signing in January and Mandzukic would be a short-term solution.
But reports in Norway have also claimed that Solskjaer has instructed United to make a move for Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland.
