Arsenal and Liverpool’s hopes of signing Schalke 04 midfielder Max Meyer this term have been significantly boosted after the German club confirmed that he would leave the club for free next campaign.
The 22-year-old versatile midfielder at the end of the current season has rejected numerous offers in order to remain at Schalke.
Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been on Schalke’s game last month, and after a positive feedbacks, Arsene Wenger’s side still have been in the race for his signature.
And, in a brief statement today, Schalke confirmed that their star player would leave the club after the end of the current campaign.

‘A change is part of football. We’re dealing with it in a highly professional manner… Max Meyer will be treated fairly until the final matchday.’
Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger, of course, is stepping down at the end of the current campaign. However, the signing of Sead Kolasinac last season suggested at a change of course when it comes to the Gunners transfer strategy.
Meanwhile, Liverpool see Max Meyer as a perfect replacement for Emre Can who has been on the verge to leave the Anfield club after the end of the current campaign.
