Stoke City forward Peter Crouch believes Chelsea are missing a Diego Costa type forward in their team – and he believes they should go all out to lure him back to Stamford Bridge.

Spanis forward has re-signed for La Liga giants Atlético Madrid officially last January, having completed a medical and signed a deal the previous September, being kept in London due to not being registered in Madrid.

The Brazilian born Spain international forward left the Blues after three years at the team, with the 30-year old’s forward publicised rift with than a head-coach Antonio Conte the reason for his exit.

Since then, the Blues have struggled to find a consistent goalscoring striker, with current ‘first-choice’ Álvaro Morata still misfiring and back-up forward Olivier Giroud out injured.

The Blues have been rumoured with the likes of Higuain in recent weeks, as Maurizio Sarri looks for the man to strengthen their offensive end.

However, Crouch believes the London giants should look no further than their ex-player himself, even it see them to break the bank to get the deal done.

Writing in his column for MailOnline, Crouch said:

“Chelsea have scored the fewest goals of the top six sides. A return of 38 from 21 matches isn’t enough to win you a title, no matter how good your defence is.

“The one thing you need is someone to score you 30 goals and they do not have a player like Harry Kane, Mo Salah or Sergio Agüero.

“Not so long ago, they did. Diego Costa would absolutely transform Chelsea’s fortunes and, if it was down to me, I’d break the bank to re-sign him.

“You can talk about Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema, but I think Costa would be the one to take Chelsea where they want to be.

“There was something about the way Costa’s career finished at Stamford Bridge that doesn’t sit right. I know there were huge problems between him and Antonio Conte, but even so, it seemed like they didn’t put up any kind of fight to keep him.

“Costa has only scored once in 11 appearances in La Liga this season”
