Paul Merson believes Chelsea should splash money in January and bring a quality backup options for Alvaro Morata.
Premier League defending champions have made a decent start of 2017/18 season despite losing 2-3 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have signed Alvaro Morata for £58m earlier in the summer as a replacement for Diego Costa who is on his way to Atletico Madrid.
Spaniard forward has been tasked with filling the goal void left by Diego Costa, who has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge despite being one of the tops performs for Antonio Conte’s side last season.
Costa is being widely tipped to secure a move to Atletico Madrid back in January, which would leave the Blues short on backup for Morata after missing out on the Spurs attacker Fernando Llorente.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Chelsea will need to make signing up front.
“Roman Abramovich has flexed his muscles over Diego Costa – but Chelsea will need another striker if they are to do special things this term,” Merson told the Daily Star.
“You can’t challenge for the Premier League and Champions League with only one striker. I think they need to buy another striker in January because Costa is not coming back. He will end up at Atletico Madrid.”
Moata has started the season strong at Stamford Bridge scoring three goals in the Premier League.
