Chelsea are ready to allow Olivier Giroud to leave in the January transfer window. The French forward has been dismal this season for the West London side, and now, boss Frank Lampard has added to the speculation with comments about Christian Pulisic.
Frank Lampard handed Olivier Giroud a rare start on Saturday versus West Ham.
The Frenchman was brought in as a replacement for Tammy Abraham, who suffered an injury in the Champions League.
It was just his second league start of the campaign, and he remains goalless after failing to find the net on Saturday.
His playing time has been limited mainly by Abraham’s success, with the 22-year-old having bagged 10 in 13 Premier League games in his breakout season.
Olivier Giroud subsequently fell behind Tammy Abraham – and then Michy Batshuayi – in the pecking order, and now it appears his situation has been worsened.
Speaking after the 1-0 loss to the Hammers, Frank Lampard hinted that Christian Pulisic could be an option to start up top for the Blues, all-but cementing Olivier Giroud’s place on the bench from now on.
The American young prospect has been impressive since joining from Borussia Dortmund, and has a return of five goals and two assists in 11 League matches, notwithstanding only having made eight starts.
And Frank Lampard hinted that the 21-year-old could become another striker option from now on.
