Chelsea centre-back David Luiz will reportedly hold private talks with the club over a new deal during the coming weeks.
Brazilian defenders future at Chelsea seemed uncertain after he made only nine appearences in the Premier League for the club last term, however, he has since established himself as a key member of new head-coach Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI.
The 31-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2018/19 season, and The Mirror reports that the Blues are now looking to take steps to avoid losing him for free next summer.
Chelsea are hopeful of agreeing on a new deal before the January transfer window, when Luiz will be free to begin talks with clubs outside of the Premier League.
The Blues rarely offer deals of longer than one campaign to players over the age of 30, however, they are believed to be eager to secure the South Americans long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
David Luiz has made more than 200 first-team games during his two spells at Chelsea.
