Chelsea are prepared to hijack Manchester United’s move for Premier League side Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake by activating the buy-back clause in his current contract, according to daily national tabloid newspaper The Daily Express.

The Blues allowed Nathan to join The Cherries on a permanent deal for £20 million, but the club insisted on a buy-back clause, which was set at £40 million.

With speculations over the futures of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and potentially Andreas Christensen, Blues are in the market for a defender and Nathan is one of the players they are interested in.

Manchester United are also looking for a new centre-half and Ake is said to be on their list of targets too, but Blues’ buy-back option will put them firmly in pole position if there is a battle for the Dutchman’s signature.

Ake joined the west London side from Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord back in 2011 when he was just 16-years-old and Dutchman made 17 first team appearances for Chelsea.

If reports are to be believed, Ake could be about to make more matches at Stamford Bridge in the future.
