According to a report by Portuguese newspaper Record, Chelsea are set to beat London rivals West Ham United to secure the services of Estoril starlet Chiquinho during the summer transfer window.
The Portuguese starlets form in the second-tier competition have been quite eye-catching and as a result, both West Ham and Chelsea are keen on bagging his signature, as per Record.
The report claims that although both teams have made bids for the player, Chelsea are believed to have an upper hand.
The 20-year-old has found back of the net 6 times in 24 games for the teams U23 side before breaking into the staring lineup. As of now, he has found back of the net once in eight games.
Having come through Sporting Lisbon’s youth academy, Chiquinho joined Estoril. A midfielder by trade, the 20-year-old would represent a solid long-term investment for us.
The likes of Pedro, Giroud and Willian will reach the end of their deals with the team when the current campaign concludes. And with that in mind, it does make sense to target young forwards.
Frank Lampard has successfully heralded a youth revolution at Stamford Bridge and securing the services of Chiquinho would be right up our alley.
